How Do I Capture From A (camcorder?) Video Camera?

I don’t quite know the model. It’s a 3ccd camera, mini dv, 500x digital zoom, 10x optical? panasonic. one of the earliest if not their first 3ccd camera. its not the better one (with easier zoom control) because it has the little slider thingy to zoom. I need to capture the video! WMM can’t, imovie cant, i dont have quicktime pro. What program should i use?

Being that it is a miniDV camcorder, your options are (or should be) unlimited. Both Windows Movie Maker, and iMovie should work fine… Are you using Firewire? cuz you shouldn’t be using USB.
It’s also very important to capture in a special order: 1) connect the firewire to the camcorder, while the camcorder is turned OFF, so it recognizes properly, and also so the firewire port doesn’t blow out.
Then turn the camcorder to VCR…then a window should appear on the desktop, showing that the device is recognized.
Now, just pop open WMM or iMovie, and go to File>>Capture
Also, make sure the settings match: NTSC-DV normal, 29.97 frames per second (or 30fps for the slackers), 16bit audio (48KHz) or 12bit (32KHz), depending on what you shot in… Then just press the capture button on the computer and your video should start automatically…
Well, I hope that answers your question…Good luck!!!
