I have been looking for PTZ IP cameras for my project for a couple months. I have tried three low cost cameras < $250. Their digital zoom is really not suitable for clear close ups. The PT control is not real time. I clicked a button. The camera moves a preset amount. The image refresh after a few seconds on a LAN. I was ready to move up to the higher priced name brands: Sony, Panasonic and Cannon etc. at upward of $1200 each or more.
At first, when I came across this product, I was very concern about the company ACTi. I have never heard of it and all its resellers that I have contacted did not offer risk free trials a couple did not even call me back. So I contacted the company told them my problem. They loaned me a off-the-shelf unit to test. I tried and bought it plus another for my project. I have them for a couple months now. They are still working fine. I will post again as time passes.
The camera functions as it was advertised. The image quality and frame rate are comparable to high priced brands I have looked at, but with less optical zoom capabilities. The camera is quite durable. By mistake I dropped one four feet from a table top to a carpet concrete floor. It suffered no ill effects.
Pro:
good image quality, low light images are very good. The real time mouse control of the camera is wonderful. With some practice, you can follow a subject walking in real time in the NVR. The Prof. edition NVR offers a good entry level ACL. If you have less than 64 cameras in your installation the NVR is free.
Con:
The NVR software is designed for engineers. You have to read the instruction manual. You will need NVR to view and control multiple cameras. A 64 bit Windows version is not yet available today.
I am not a habitual reviewer, do not work for the company nor befriend with anyone there. I have spent a lot of time looking. If you are looking for IP PTZ cameras, take a look at this one before spending more. I hope this save you some time and money.
