I already paid for a sony dvd camera but when I tested it and gave it some beating with the functions,it was so bad.Then the salesman gave me this HITACHI dvd camera.I tried it and tested it.It was awesome and gave it some test too. It was clear and stable.It was worth every penny.Though,some folks still find the brand name Hitachi to be unpopular.If you look at the products of this company it may be considered as high end compared with the more mass or consumer famous brands.I will give this camera a grade of 5. I did not regret returning the sony and paying more for this camera. It was very worth it.

One drawback though, I am using mac.This media or Hitachi dvd cam is not compatible with Mac.My only wish is that someone be able to make a software that will make this camera compatible with Mac. I hope HITACHI will make that effort to create a software for Mac.

Someone was complaining about sticking with analog and unable to play this on some player.Well,part of the reason why they are complaining is ingnorance.Read the manual first and play around with your camera. Teach yourself on how to be part of a new generation.Probably once you fully comprehend how it works, you will appreciate it even more.Consider it like a new trick for an old dog.This camera is worth every penny.

While I admit the processing software was slightly annoying initially, we’ve been completely satified since installation. Being able to store it all on the computer as a secondary back up to the disks is a relief too as disks are too delicate for my tastes as the only means of holding precious keepsake photos and videos.

We’ve had no software glitches or disk/card initializing problems.

I do not understand why so many other reviewers also have a digital camera. With my Hitachi I can, with a flick of my thumb, change from video to photo without jiggling the camcorder in the slightest. The photo feature allows the user to take up to 3,500 “fine” quality pictures on a single 512mb card. I have stood on the lake bank taking pictures with my Hitachi 200-300 feet out, zoomed in on the boat, and caught a close up still of my 4 year old grandson reeling in one of his first fish in such fantistic detail to where you can even see the fishing line! Why would anyone want to have to lug around an extra digital camera when this one does it all? Beyond me.

I was swayed by the promise of playing a burned DVD right out of camera. and now I wish I had stuck to my old analog Video (Hitachi) which never gave me any trouble.

It’s the DVDs that are full of errors. I went to Europe with this camera and out of 8 disks , 6 could not be read!! Worst still they can not be played straight on DVD.

Do not waste your money on this, instead buy a cheaper miniDV camera.

I bought Hitachi DZ-MV350A(NTSC). It does show errors a lot for any reason and we couldn’t watch on our dvd player after finalized. It wasn’t easy to operate and and copy to another dvd-r. I did go crazy to understand how to operate and what to do (even after reading the manual several times).

I don’t know how many changes have been made in the manufacturing process from model 550. But buyer beware that with the digital media – there are often many errors – like there are when you write a music cd. These write errors cause the data to be lost – I went on vacation and only 4 of the 6 discs I brought were usable after because of random writing errors that occured pretty randomly.

I would recommend waiting for this technology to get the kinks out or going with a different manufacter.
