How Can I Transfer My Camcorder Videos To My Pc Using A Tape Camcorder?

It’s my son’s 1st birthday tomorrow and I want to record his day and I’ve got a Samsung Camcorder. It’s a fantastic Camcorder but it uses tapes instead of SD cards or discs. I’m not shelling out £200+ when my camcorder is good enough. Is there a way of transferring the recording to my pc? Any help would be great.

    Yes.
Your camcorder should or might have a Firewire or IEEE output. Often it’s labeled as “digital out”. You can plug this into your computer (if it has a Firewire/IEEE port) and use whatever editing software you have. If you don’t have editing software to capture the video with, then that’s a new question.
If you don’t have a digital out on the camcorder you can get a converter. Dazzle made one so good the company was bought out by Pinnacle. They now bundle it with excellent editing software, but it’s no longer the $20 box it once was. Link below.
If you don’t have a digital (Firewire/IEEE) port on your computer then Dazzle/Pinnacle can help there as well. Use the same Link below.

The model of your camcorder would have helped. I assume its mini-dv the only way to get the vide onto your computer is via Firewire IEE1394. check your computer to see if you have this. do to your system and hardware look for the device.
if its listed you are in luck all you are going to need it a cable. if not then you need a firewire card about 15 ish and the cable is around 5-10. they are very simple to pop in and dont need drivers (windows does it all).
if you need help email me
Once its all setup then plug the cable into your camera and PC then turn the camera to play mode (VCR) windows will pick it up and off you go open Windows Movie maker and go to capture,. your camera will be there and you can control the camera from the computer. You can edit the video when you save it only save it as a DV AVI it will be the best quality, but a large file.
    Hope that helps

Assuming your camcorder is quite basic and only has standard AV outputs like composite ( yellow knob) or S-video, then get yourself a video to usb converter.
There are plenty on ebay and they are generally about £50 ish.http://www.threedoubleyou.com/computered…
