HDD camcorders you are stuck with the size HDD once its full you have to upload it to a computer or delete it. Media card fill it up just pop another one in.
Coping the data from camera to computer sure its quick just as fast as copying any file on your computer. But unless you have a high end computer you are going to have to convert the video to a less compressed format and as the format is highly compressed even in the best quality that gives reduced quality, uncompressing it reduces the quality again, you cannot put data lost in compression back in. so now you have a reduced quality video then you are going to edit it and then compress it again to get it onto DVD OH! and the video has been down converted from HD (if you have a HD camcorder) to get HD on to a DVD you need Blueray then you need a player. so this camcorder that cost you 800-1000 has now cost a lot more.
Both HDD and media card do not record fast action video very well out of the two I would go for Media card.
Good luck

If you buy a Camera that stores its files digitally, it makes the transition from camera to computer much smoother, in that the computer can read and copy data directly from the device, rather than a physical type of media such as DVDs or SD cards. Hard drives typically are more compact than DVD readers/writers, so the cameras tend to be smaller than physical media cameras, and they will become obsolete slower as digital storage will be useful longer than DVDs, due to the advent of Blu-Ray.
