    Little Dog’s right. In general, the trade off is that 3 chips give you better colour fidelity while large chips give you better low light handling. Pro equipment uses 3 big chips!

    The imaging chip is only a single measure. The lens system and the video file type play huge roles in this system – there is no single “most important factor.
    I would take a large-lensed, single CMOS, camcorder over a small lensed, 3CCD camcorder
    In your case, if you provided the model numbers we could see which is matched better and make a more informed recommendation.
