I want to get a new camcorder. I am looking for something between $200-$300. Which brand do you prefer? What should I look for to ensure I get one that does a lot of stuff and is convenient.

pkinvest I am into video production/direction and am looking into purchasing a new camcorder. I will, hopefully, have a Mac Book Pro this Summer and have been told that Mini DV is the best, but also that Hard Disk is the best so I really don’t know… your suggestions as far as cameras or general advice will be highly appreciated!!
My only “must-haves” are
*3ccd’s
*under $1000
*recording format should be Mpeg 2 or Avi
(preferably Avi but I don’t think that’s possible, ha)
Thanks!!

pkinvest I have a new Panasonic 3ccd mini dv camcorder PV GS 320 camcorder. I placed a mini DV tape that has some film my friend shot on his camera, (a sony).
I can’t view the content as when I play it it says wrong format on the screen.
Is there a way around this or is the tape just not compatible with the Panasonic although its a mini DV and it fits in well and plays?
Thanks
